Become a volunteer at the Paris 2024 Olympics

The organising committee of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games are seeking volunteers to assist with the running of events. Therefore the ICF have requested those with experience volunteering at events staged by the ICF to consider applying to become a volunteer at Paris 2024.

It is a common knowledge that the Olympic Games are only good as its volunteers, and we would like to encourage our paddling communities with experience hosting ICF events to represent our sport at the highest level. The Paris Organising Committee is looking for volunteers who have previously participated in staging ICF events in any capacity. In order to be considered for a volunteer role at the Olympic Games candidates must sign up through the official channels, a link which can be found below. Once completed, please email the Secretary of the SRC who can then endure your application to the organisers of the canoeing events.

April Regatta (15/16 April) – Traffic flow, parking, boat storage, and patio lawn charges

There are new directions from Serco (the HPP managers) related to traffic flow, parking, boat storage, and patio lawn use changes for the 2023 racing season.

Access to parking is via the Main Car Park entrance then, at the Elms Gate (at what3words ///foods.stored.rungs ) turn right on to the new one-way system. The exit will be via the Ski Tow gate (at what3words ///secret.engage.universally).

Use of the Boathouse entrance is restricted to Paddle Ability, Regatta Officials, and Paracanoe. However, long trailers can be parked (with one tow vehicle) near the boatsheds. Standard charges for the vehicle (see below), but no extra for the trailer.

Boat racks are also available near the boathouse and are free to use on a first-come first served basis. There is space for approx. 500 boats.

Please be mindful of others when erecting gazebos, windbreaks, etc and do not block/take up parking space. Parking will be charged on entry at ÂŁ5.00/day (or ÂŁ9.00 for 2 days), with payment by cash or card to the Serco-contracted marshall.

Additionally, clubs/participants using the Patio Lawn by erecting gazebos, etc will be charged ÂŁ25. This must be pre-booked by email through: cindy.appleby@serco.com. Please, do not store boats on the patio lawn.

Increases to National Regatta Entry Fees in 2023

Following a review of regatta finances from across the 2022 season, the SRC have made the decision to increase the entry fee for national regattas from ÂŁ7.50 to ÂŁ10 per seat, to come into effect in 2023.

This is not a decision that has been made lightly, but is a reflection of the changing financial situation surrounding our national regattas. In 2022, three out of four regattas held at Holme Pierrepont ran at a considerable loss, which is not sustainable in the long term.

We appreciate that in light of the changing economic climate, this increase in prices is coming at a difficult time. However, we hope that the community understands that this decision reflects the increases in costs we have experienced in running national regattas. The SRC are committed to finding new ways to add value to our programme of domestic racing as part of our current strategy plan.

    Developing Club Run Regattas

The Sprint Racing Committee are putting their weight behind the development of Club run regattas. The attached press release outlines the support that the committee can offer, and urge you to consider becoming part of this new venture.  Although we already have some club regattas in the calendar (for which the SRC are really thankful), we realise that only having four national regattas per year at Holme Pierrepont to practice sprint skills in a race environment simply isn’t enough. We are encouraging all new and existing club run regattas to now come under the umbrella of the SRC.

To get this new culture off the ground the Community of large and small clubs will need to come together. Please consider this as something for you. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact Tim Scott, chair of the SRC, using the address below.

GB Coaching Conference – a date for your diary!

In creating the Sprint Performance Strategy, it was identified that there are currently limited opportunities in which the sprint community can come together to create connection between coaches, a platform which enables performance conversations to take place and to feedback learnings and work going on within the World Class Programme. The GB-ONE Coaching conference aims to create an event where coaches can come together with those in the community as well as those in British Canoeing, to help foster a more collaborative relationship built on trust and transparency.

The conference will be aimed at all flatwater coaches who would like to engage with others in the community and share ideas and best practice. The list of direct invitees includes coaches who have registered interest in attending and supporting at international events and those who have engaged in coach development opportunities via the Talent Club Partnerships.

The conference is planned for 4th March 2023 at Reading Canoe Club between 12:00-18:00.

Do not apply now. Just put the date in your diary. More details will follow and the invitation will be sent out soon.

Kind regards and wishing you all a very Merry Christmas

    Chris Furber
Performance Director (Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe)
